Are you wondering how capitalists could crow about the recession turning the corner while unemployment was still rising, consumer spending was slow and housing prices are so depressed. We said that it is because the owners of business, capital, make more money with depressed wages --- more work is forced out of working people for less money. The article below by the Associated Press's Crutsinger confirms our suspicions as he analyzes the government's statistics for the spring. Productivity was up 6.6% and wages fell by an annual rate of 5.9%. The next time that the owners of business go complaining to the government asking for lower taxes, etc remember that they screw you every time they get an opportunity and deserve nothing.
PLEASE NOTE THE UNDERLINED, ITALICIZED AND RED PRINT AREA IN THE ARTICLE. Owners of business could pass the fruits of the productivity rise on to working people but they are choosing to "bolster their bottom line", their take home pay so to speak, while laying off workers and depressing wages.

UNEMPLOYMENT AS THE NEW WAY OF LIFE, FORGET THAT.
Nut cases on the right and the editors who work for corporate America are floating the recovery
without jobs as the new America era. Well that won't work of course because if people aren't
working then they don't have money to spend. WE NEED A JOBS PROGRAM LIKE THE WPA
OF THE 1930S RIGHT NOW! Put our people back to work so we can support our families and
work toward a better future. Of course instead of putting us back to work the government gave
the bailout to the corporations and banks who then invested it abroad or give it to themselves
as multi-million dollar salaries, bonuses, or dividends.
BRITISH PETROLEUM has done terrible damage to our GULF COAST and has our government
punished them at all for what they created? No. It is terrible to think that we have become a
nation of cowards unwilling to stand up to the corporations and take back control of our nation
by electing politicians democrats or republics who take our side against the corporations and
the wealthy. Corporations and the wealthy who steal all they can, stash it in off shore banks,
and live the life of royalty while the nation goes down the tubes, but that is about the sum of the
story. We have let them off the hook time after time, no wonder they take advantage of us
"Official" Unemployment stands at 9% nationally, 12.5+ in California (where some smaller cities
are dealing with 25% unemployment) and some states are worse off than California. In
California several counties have unemployment greater than 25%, and the Democrats are trying
to sell the idea that things are getting better. Well, yes they are better for the bankers who got
the bailouts but how about for the close to 30 million workers who are either out of a job or
under-employed [Translation: That means they are working for s__t wages, no benefits, and
can't support their families.]. The rich are not in the same boat as the rest of the citizenry. They
float at the top held up by our work and our bodies. They don't even want us to have health
care when we are sick, to have sick pay when we are off ill, or a decent pension when we retire.
Oh, they take all of those things for themselves and think they deserve them. Well, I believe we
NEED and DESERVE those things too so our children grow up strong, educated, and with a
future. What do you think? Is that too much to ask for?
